Auditions Requirements
for the 2012-2013 school year (Auditions will be held during January 3-5, 2012 at Conard - all present
students grades 8-11)
All auditions will take place at Conard this year.
January 3, 2012 (6-7:30am
& 3:00-7pm)
January 4, 2012 (6-7:30am & 3:30-8pm)
January 5, 2012 (6-7:30am & 3:00-7pm)

Present Conard students can sign up for an audition time
on the bulletin board outside of the band room prior to the December vacation.

Flute - The audition piece
is “Blue Note Blues” with a play along track.
Saxophones - audition on alto,
tenor or bari. The audition piece is “Blue Note Blues” with a play along track. To be considered for the
Concert Jazz Band you will need to improvise to “Blue Note Blues” - F concert Blues.
Trumpet - The audition piece is “Baggage Claim Blues” with a play along track. To be considered
for the Concert Jazz Band you will need to improvise to “Baggage Claim Blues” - Bb concert Blues.
Trombone - The audition piece is “Baggage Claim Blues” with a play along track.
To be considered for the Concert Jazz Band you will need to improvise to “Baggage Claim Blues” - Bb concert
Blues.
Guitar - The audition piece is “Blue Note Blues” with a play along track.
Part one - play the melody with the play along track. Part two - play the chord progression with the play along track.
To be considered for the Concert Jazz Band you will need to improvise to “Blue Note Blues” - F concert Blues.
Piano - Part One: The audition piece is “Baggage Claim Blues” with a play along
track. Part Two: Play left and right hand chords to “Baggage Claim Blues” with a play along track.To
be considered for the Concert Jazz Band you will need to improvise to “Baggage Claim Blues” - Bb concert
Blues.
Bass - Part One: The first audition piece is “Dido” with a play
along track (page 1 to the top of page 2 - First chorus) Part Two: The second audition piece is to walk to the progression
of “Dido” (page 1 & 2) Part Three: Walk to the chords of “Baggage Claim Blues”

Drums - The drum
audition is playing along tracks to “Basie Straight Ahead” AND “Mambo de Memo”. In addition playing
other typical jazz beats will be asked as well. You should know a rock beat, samba beat, jazz waltz beat, funk beat,
and a jazz rock beat.
